Sewing Box

    Sewing Box

This exquisite French sewing box is made of wood with gilded bronze fittings, including foliage scrolled feet, handles, and mounts. The attached lid features round porcelain plaques, possibly Sèvres, with hand-painted cherubs. The interior of the box includes a foxed mirror, several removable padded silk compartments holding gilded spools or bobbins, a glass perfume bottle, a thimble, a needle case, and sewing scissors, among other items. It is thought that the sewing box was a Christmas gift from Miriam Stark to her mother, Frances Ann Lutcher.
