Third Floor

Although the third floor of The W.H. Stark House has fewer rooms than the first two, it provided a functional space for the home’s original occupants with a sewing room, linen closet, large storage room, and a room that was used as a playroom/ballroom and later as additional library space.

A room known as the “Nurse’s Apartment” is to the left at the top of the stairs. This area served as the former living quarters of the W.H. Stark family’s nurse, whose remembrances were helpful during the restoration process. The Nurse’s Apartment includes a bathroom, which visitors to The W.H. Stark House can glimpse through a door left ajar.

Down the hall to the right is the North Storage Room, an impressive “closet” of paneled wood cabinets and sliding drawers holding hundreds of fashion accessories that belonged to Miriam Stark. The similarly-styled Sewing Room is equally as impressive.

The final stop on the tour is the Tower Room, which boasts an impressive display of Napoleonic artifacts (including the extremely rare Napoleon death mask) as well as a welcoming nook situated inside the Queen Anne turret.
